About Us

As a not-for-profit organisation, the Italian Day Centre in Hobart and Launceston has been valued in the Tasmanian community for 30 years. We are entrusted to provide services that ensure that older people, people with disabilities, people with mental illnesses, their families and carers are supported as equal partners in planning and taking steps to improve wellness, strength and social connection with others.

The qualified and experienced staff of the Italian Day Centre are here to assist and provide support in a client-centered and professional way, so that our clients are able to make informed decisions in regards to the services that are available. Clients are encouraged and enabled to keep and improve their wellbeing, health and independence while knowing that there will always be support when needed.

The Italian Australian Seniors Welfare Association of Tasmania (IASWAT) and known as the Italian Day Centre was founded in 1991 to address the independence, social and cultural needs of the ageing Italian migrant community in Hobart.

The Italian Day Centre was set up to be a community, social and cultural hub for older people in Tasmania. Nowadays, IASWAT supports a variety of clients, Italian or otherwise. We have grown substantially over the past decade thanks to the efforts of its committee, staff and volunteers.
